Garkane Energy - Tree Replacement Policy
Trees and power lines don’t mix! A major challenge for all electric utilities is to keep trees from growing into power lines. Not only can such trees cause power outages, but they can also pose a serious safety risk. Many well-intentioned residents plant young trees to provide shade and beautify their properties, but fail to plan for a time several years down the road when the mature trees will reach into the power lines.
Garkane has a program to reduce this problem. When trees are interfering with power line rights-of-way, we will pay up to $45 to replace the problem tree with an approved dwarf tree, which will not exceed 15 feet at maturity (The replacement tree must be planted outside of right-of-way). Garkane will also cover the costs of clearing the right-of-way. A list of approved trees is available by calling toll-free 1-800-747-5403 or by stopping by one of our offices.
